History
He Xiangjian founded Midea in 1968 in Beijiao Town, Foshan, Guangdong Province, China. The enterprise initially manufactured simple household goods before entering the electric fan market in the early 1980s. As China’s economy grew, Midea diversified its production to include air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, rice cookers and other domestic appliances.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the company rapidly expanded its manufacturing capacity and international footprint through research and development investments, strategic partnerships and acquisitions. A significant milestone occurred in 2016 when Midea acquired a majority stake in KUKA AG, a leading German robotics and automation firm. This acquisition bolstered Midea’s capabilities in industrial automation and smart manufacturing. Today, Midea is recognised as one of the largest appliance manufacturers globally.
