History
Solinco’s history is unusual compared with traditional major racquet manufacturers. Rather than establishing itself primarily through racquets, the company developed its reputation through strings.
For roughly its first 15 years in the tennis market, Solinco concentrated heavily on tennis strings. Its success in that category eventually provided the foundation for an expansion into complete tennis equipment. According to an interview with Solinco Sports director KT Kim published by Forbes, the company’s intention was never to remain merely a string manufacturer; racquets had been part of its longer-term vision.
The company subsequently invested several years in racquet research and development. This culminated in the launch of the Whiteout and Blackout racquet lines in February 2022. Solinco describes the development process as involving extensive testing and collaboration with athletes and industry specialists.
One notable collaborator was Roman Prokes, a prominent racquet technician and customization specialist associated with professional players including Andre Agassi.
The result was a gradual transformation of Solinco from a specialist string company into a more comprehensive tennis-performance brand.
The Solinco philosophy
Solinco describes its approach using the phrase “Performance Engineering.” Its stated philosophy is essentially:
Research → Develop → Test → Play → Perform
The company’s stated mission is to equip everyone from professional athletes to recreational players with performance-oriented equipment, while also supporting the growth of tennis and local tennis communities.
This philosophy is important to understanding Solinco’s position in the market. It doesn’t primarily market itself around heritage or luxury. Instead, its branding revolves around:
- Performance
- Spin
- Control
- Customization
- Material engineering
- Player feedback
- Professional-level testing
- A distinctive visual identity
Tennis strings
Strings remain the core of Solinco’s identity.
The company’s most recognizable products are its shaped co-polyester strings, which are particularly popular among players who generate significant racquet-head speed and want additional spin and control.
Tour Bite
Tour Bite is one of Solinco’s foundational flagship strings and is strongly associated with the company’s early reputation in the performance-string market.
It is aimed particularly at players looking for aggressive spin and bite, with its shaped construction helping the string interact aggressively with the ball.
Tour Bite helped establish the reputation that eventually allowed Solinco to compete with much larger traditional string manufacturers.
Hyper-G
Hyper-G is arguably Solinco’s most recognizable product.
The distinctive bright green color became an important part of its identity, making Solinco strings unusually recognizable on court. Solinco says Hyper-G was co-developed and tested with ATP and WTA athletes and was designed to combine spin, power, control and improved tension maintenance.
The Hyper-G family has subsequently expanded beyond the original string into related products such as:
- Hyper-G Soft
- Hyper-G accessories
- Hyper-G grips and overgrips
- Hyper-G vibration dampeners
- Hyper-G bags
Solinco says Hyper-G became the first neon-colored tennis string adopted by touring professionals, helping establish the product as both a performance product and a visual signature for the brand.
The company also reports a series of commercial and player recognitions for Hyper-G, including strong sales rankings and popularity within NCAA tennis. These are Solinco-reported recognitions, rather than independent universal rankings.
Confidential
Confidential was introduced in 2020 and became the third major member of Solinco’s flagship string group alongside Tour Bite and Hyper-G. Solinco positions it as a more feel-oriented co-poly while retaining substantial spin, control and power.
The original Confidential is designed around:
- Directional control
- Spin
- Feel
- Power
- Tension maintenance
In 2026, Solinco introduced Confidential Soft, a softer version intended to provide a more plush response and additional pop while maintaining the original Confidential characteristics.
Revolution
Revolution is another member of Solinco’s performance-string portfolio and is positioned alongside Tour Bite, Hyper-G and Confidential in the company’s principal product lineup.
Why Solinco strings became popular
Solinco occupies an interesting position in tennis equipment because its strings became popular among serious players before the company became a major racquet manufacturer.
The basic appeal is the combination of:
Shaped polyester + high spin potential + control + durability + distinctive feel.
This makes Solinco particularly attractive to modern baseline players who use significant racquet-head speed and topspin.
The brand also offers an unusually broad selection of gauges. For example, Solinco currently lists Hyper-G in gauges ranging from 15L through 20 gauge, allowing players to substantially change the balance between durability, feel, spin and power.
Racquets
Solinco entered the modern racquet market with its two principal families:
Whiteout
The Whiteout is generally positioned around control, feel and precision.
Blackout
The Blackout is oriented more toward power and accessibility while retaining Solinco’s performance-oriented approach.
The two families were introduced in 2022 following several years of development. Solinco incorporated technologies intended to allow players to customize racquet specifications rather than simply accepting the factory setup.
One notable feature is the Weight Control Module, which allows players to modify racquet weight and balance by replacing components rather than applying traditional lead tape. Solinco describes the system as a simple plug-and-play customization method.
The original Whiteout and Blackout development also incorporated 40T carbon fiber at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions, according to the Forbes report reproduced by Solinco. The objective was to increase stability and enlarge the effective sweet spot.
Equipment beyond strings and racquets
Solinco has increasingly attempted to become a full tennis-equipment ecosystem.
Its product categories include:
- Tennis strings
- Performance racquets
- Replacement grips
- Overgrips
- Vibration dampeners
- Tennis bags
- Racquet customization products
- Ball carts and training-related equipment
This is significant because the company’s long-term strategy is not simply to compete with established string manufacturers, but to become a complete tennis brand.
Professional players and Team Solinco
Solinco maintains Team Solinco, encompassing ATP and WTA professionals, juniors and coaches. Its current website lists players and tennis professionals including Bob Bryan, Mike Bryan, Rajeev Ram, Jenson Brooksby, Ingrid Martins, Andrew Johnson and Jack Kennedy, among others.
The Bryan brothers are particularly relevant to Solinco’s history. The company has highlighted their use of Hyper-G and their success at the highest levels of professional doubles tennis.
Importantly, professional usage should not automatically be interpreted as proof that a particular product is objectively better than competitors. String choice is highly individual and depends on racquet, tension, technique, playing style and physical preferences.
Brand identity
Solinco has developed a fairly distinctive visual and cultural identity within tennis.
Perhaps the most recognizable element is its “O” stencil.
The company says the stencil has appeared in competition for more than a decade, including at the Australian Open, and describes it as a symbol of performance, customization and its connection with players.
Hyper-G’s neon-green appearance is another major part of the brand’s visual identity.
This gives Solinco a somewhat different personality from traditional tennis brands such as Wilson, Head, Babolat and Yonex. Whereas those companies have enormous histories spanning racquets, professional sponsorships and multiple sports/products, Solinco built its reputation more narrowly around performance tennis equipment and string culture before expanding outward.
Solinco’s position in the tennis market
A useful way to think about Solinco is:
Traditional model:
Racquets → professional players → strings/accessories
Solinco’s development:
Strings → string reputation → professional adoption → racquets → complete equipment ecosystem
That history explains why the company’s strings remain so central to its identity even though it now sells racquets.
Solinco itself describes the goal as equipping players from professionals to recreational competitors, while outside coverage has similarly characterized the company as a brand whose reputation was built through strings before moving into racquets.

What makes Solinco distinctive?
The biggest differentiator is probably its specialization in polyester-string performance.
Solinco didn’t initially become famous because it had the most famous racquet on tour. It became famous because serious tennis players started talking about its strings.
That created a particularly strong connection between the brand and players who care about:
spin → control → string geometry → gauge → tension → customization.
Its products also tend to have very recognizable aesthetics. Hyper-G’s green color, the Solinco “O” stencil, and the Blackout/Whiteout design language give the company a distinctive identity compared with more conventional tennis brands.
Solinco today
As of 2026, Solinco has evolved considerably beyond its original string-focused identity. Its current portfolio spans strings, racquets and accessories, while the company continues to emphasize research, athlete testing and customization. Its website currently highlights products such as Hyper-G, Tour Bite, Confidential, Whiteout, Blackout and the newer Confidential Soft, alongside newer customization products such as the Weighted Grommet Kit.
The company’s broader strategic direction can therefore be summarized as:
From a specialist tennis-string company to a complete performance-tennis equipment brand.
