History
Crocs was established in 2002 by Scott Seamans, Lyndon “Duke” Hanson and George Boedecker Jr. The founders acquired the design for a lightweight foam shoe from Foam Creations, a Canadian company. Originally intended as a boating shoe due to its slip-resistant sole and water-friendly construction, the first Crocs model, named the Beach, debuted at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in Florida. The initial production run of approximately 200 pairs sold out almost immediately.3
As demand grew, Crocs expanded beyond boating enthusiasts into everyday casual footwear. During the mid-2000s, the company experienced rapid global growth and diversified its product lineup to include sandals, flip-flops, boots and work shoes.
Although Crocs became famous for comfort, the brand also attracted attention for its unconventional appearance. The company’s willingness to embrace this distinctive design helped build a loyal customer base and establish Crocs as a recognisable lifestyle brand.3
